My Sustainable Canada (MSC) is helping health care facilities go green through initiatives with the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA), Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care (CCGHC) and Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE).
a) Through OHA's Green Champion Hospital Champion Fund, My Sustainable Canada is assisting in the development of pilot energy assessments and waste audits with 10 hospitals across Ontario and assisting in the development of a waste audit template.
b) As Partnership Director, My Sustainable Canada is helping the CCGHC become recognized as the premier green health care network in Canada through knowledge sharing and environmental program implementation.
c) My Sustainable Canada is working with OEE to develop strategies to help health care facilities implement ENERGY STAR® purchasing practices.
d) The Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, in partnership with My Sustainable Canada and researchers at the University of Guelph and Wilfrid Laurier University, received funding for a three year project on local food for health care from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The project will survey 250 hospitals in Ontario and will involve developing a policy report on the use of local foods in Ontario hospitals.
